About the course:

The course focuses on how America and the American nation has been imagined and re-imagined from its earliest beginnings to the present in a variety of fictional and documentary texts. Some of the central questions are: What is a nation? What does it mean to be American or un-American, to be a citizen or a foreigner? How have American print and oral cultures articulated changing conceptions of the nation and the national community?
