About the course:

In this course, you read texts by prominent Anglo-American modernists against the background of events in modernist aesthetics and historical factors such as World War I, the struggle for women's suffrage, imperialism, mass culture, racism, and the emergence of the modern city. The course examines how and why modernist authors became involved in the social issues of their day through formal innovation and poetic experimentation.
